A few years ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with Advanced Alzheimer’s. Within such a short span of time, she has lost her memories of her late husband, her five children, her own childhood, everyday items, etc. Alzheimer’s is a brutal condition, and not just for her.

 

I’ve also watched my selfless mother step up to the plate. She gave up her job so that my grandmother could have a family member to look after her full time. And full time isn’t a 9-5. Not in the slightest. 

 

The idea for Care Coalition came to me as I was back at home this past summer. I wanted to create a resource specifically to help those who devote all of their minutes and efforts helping someone else: full-time caretakers. 

 

Care Coalition will provide care packages filled with self-care items for the caretaker, as well as helpful resources such as online training videos, a 24/7 helpline, support groups, and a database of licensed respite care providers.
